We celebrated Memorial Day on Sunday since we were leaving for our next tournament on Monday morning. Since I have been so
tuff on Mia, I thought I'd share a sweet memory. As grandpa was fixing the lilacs from our garden for the graves, Mia asked if she could have some for her princess ball. He gave her some and she put them in a plastic sandwich bag. We didn't see her prepare them, but she put water in the baggy and then put them in her purse. When we visited my sister Margo's grave, we noticed that President
Hinckley's grave was just across the street. When Mia realized it was her prophet's grave she wanted to give him her ball flowers only she was too shy. Her sweet cousin, Olivia, took her by the hand and helped her give her gift to the prophet. After we went to the other cemeteries , Mia said, " My mom should have been here so she could see how special it felt. My mom needs to feel this special feeling." Here I was worried that the cemetery's might scare the little ones and just the opposite
happened. She felt the sacredness of the experience. On another note: After sharing in our cousin Melissa's experience with her surgery and the agony she went
thru having
receivedthe "dreaded gene", it was touching to see in real life the consequences others who also carried the gene. Margo was 50 when she died and my mother was only 45.
