Elder Vaka is an Elder from Tonga. He came to our mission as an English speaking missionary and so he learned English here. One day as he and his companion were working, they hit an armadillo on the road. Road kill. So they stopped and put it in a walmart bag and put it in their trunk. They continued to work all day. Remember it is 90+ degrees plus humidity. It is very hot here. When they got home that night, they put it in their freezer. A while later they got it out and skinned it and had a lady cook it for them. In his own words : got sick. It makes me sick just writing it.

Is that really Grandpa?

thought I would share some stories from our Elders. One companionship was tracting around their apartment complex and having moderate success, when they knocked on the door of a lady named Elizabeth. Her initial reaction was similar to many others they had recieved as she explained that she appreciated their work, but she wasn't interested.. they then asked her if there was anything that they could do for her and she responded, "not unless you want to walk my dog for me." She was a little taken aback as they asked, "Is 6:30 in the morning too early for you?" To make a short story even shorter, they ran with her dog, Mike for about 2 weeks, every morning. One day as they were bringing Mike back home, Elizabeth said the words they had only hoped she would say. "You know I was thinking that one of these days I might like to have you guys over to tell me a litle bit more about your church." Two days later they had taught her the first lesson and committed her to baptism. a few days ofter that, she had a church tour, came to all three hours of church on Sunday, and has a date to be baptized on the 28th of August. All from a simple act of service and a hyperactive boxer named Mike.
